2000 GUINEAS 1862

The 54th winner of the 2000 Guineas, held on Tuesday 6th May 1862 over the Rowley Mile, was The Marquis (5/1 fav), a bay colt by Stockwell out of Cinizelli, owned by Mr Stanhope Hawke. The winner won by 1/2 a length in 1 minute 55 secs, with a further 1/2 length back to the third. A field of 17 runners contested the race which was worth £4,150 (Equivalent to £452,500 in 2017)
